Spot market cools: buyers and sellers enter price tug-of-war
TrendForce's report shows that this week (July 29 to August 4), the DRAM spot market experienced a sideways consolidation pattern. The average spot price of mainstream chips DDR4 1Gx8 3200MT/s inched up from $42.04 last week to $42.11, a weekly gain of only 0.17%, contrasting sharply with gains of several percentage points or even double digits in prior weeks. 4Gb DDR4 and 2Gb DDR3 continued upward, but due to limited trading volume, buyers and sellers have not reached a price consensus, market wait-and-see sentiment is strong, and actual transactions are constrained.

Analysts point out that the "temperature difference" between spot and contract prices essentially reflects the rhythm difference between market sentiment and industry fundamentals: contract prices lock in long-term orders from major customers, continuing to rise on the support of firm demand from AI servers and data centers; while spot prices are more affected by channel sentiment and short-term supply-demand disturbances. Profit-taking and wait-and-see sentiment at high price levels are normal technical consolidation.
Supply-demand rebalancing: AI demand reshapes pricing power across the supply chain
The core driver of this round of price increases remains the explosive demand from AI computing infrastructure construction.
